I got a call last week from this band that I jammed with a few times. They’re an awesome reggae band based here in Utah doing gigs all around the US.

Here are some of the preliminary shots that might go into the insides of their new album:

There’s one more member that I haven’t posted photos yet either to flickr or here because I ran out of time for editing/retouching. But I will be posting more of them soon and I have another shoot with them right before their next gig at the palladium here in SLC.

I have another shoot booked this weekend as well for product shots with an old client. And I have another shoot in LA scheduled in July for another band who’s kinda related to One Republic.

I was seriously thinking of selling my lensbaby but recently I had the opportunity to shoot a wonderful wedding at South Jordan. It was at a really nice reception hall with a lot of warm ambient lighting. Most of my shots that day were taken with my two-light rig which was a 580EXII on camera with a CTO filter and a 580EX off camera triggered by a Pocket Wizard Plus II (my brother was lugging around a remote strobe ala flash flavor style). Fortunately there were a lot of christmas lights around the hall that I was inspired to take out my lensbaby and use the heart-shaped aperture rings to create an image that will seal a memory.

Update: Jeremy Hall noticed how one of the hearts is coming out of the brides hand (top left of her hand). I remembered that I had another lady hold the christmas lights behind them and her hand is behind the heart and the final effect looks as if a heart bokeh was coming out of her hand. :D

Got the chance to grab some press credentials last week and brought only one lens with me during the game: a Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM with a Canon 1.4x TC. shot it at a fairly high ISO to keep up with the pro’s who were shooting with a minimum 300mm f2.8L lenses… man… I wish I could get my hands on one of those soon… oh I am drooling for a vintage 200mm f1.8L right now.

One of my favorite Rangefinders (the other is a Yashica Electro 35 GTN). Shot this one at 30 seconds at f14. I painted it with a regular super white LED maglight.

I went and got a couple sheets of acrylic from a local distributor. I got both black and white glossy 5′x3′3″ sheets from Regional Supply here in Utah. I went there after Rich Legg told me where to get a good deal locally for them.

So here’s one of the first few shots that came out of that setup:

I was playing around with cross lighting… and this shot has 4 light sources… a ringflash as the main, two vivitar 283’s as rim lights and the sun behind the subject’s head as a backlight.

the watermark is linking to my old site… but… meh… that’s fine. just don’t mind it.

Available lighting from 2 AB800 modeling lights…

So basically i didnt trigger the lights. I just used the lighting preview from the modelling lights. PP: did some desaturation, bumped up the curves and added a filter.

This post is a tribute to my grandfather. I was lucky enough that he visited me a few months ago and I had the opportunity to immortalize him:

This is my farewell gift to the luckiest man ever: Jason Forston… new baby (two weeks old as of writing) and a new job as Marketing VP in a high end armored car corporation. Double congratulations, man!

Here’s the diagram for this shot:

So basically, I did a little cross lighting on this shot. Both strobes were set at a 1:2 ratio… meaning I had the AB800 at camera left at 1/8th power and the AB800 beauty dish at 1/16th power (fill light).
